American Monopolies are Back and Stronger Then Ever

by Dache

We always read in our textbooks about J.P. Morgan (Wall street) and Andrew Carnegie (Steel) and how the government stepped in back in the day to stop these monopolies but that is CLEARLY not the case these days.

Right now there are 6 companies that control all the media that we see. Yes Six and they all have pretty much the same agenda across the board. No real competition they just purely dominate the media market and domination is it at a 90% rate. Yes, 90% of what your read, watch and listen too are controlled by only six companies.

The companies are: GE, News Corp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, and CBS.

Just from those six look at some of the type of power properties they own: Espn, MTV, NFL.com, Time Magazine, Comcast, Marvel comics, New York Post and etc. Back in the 1980′s these companies were controlled by 50 different companies now its 6…. Monopoly anyone? Right now its a pure illusion of choice as Frugal Dad points out. Wonder why you hear the same songs constantly across the nation when your travel? Because 80% of the stations have the same playlist, they are mostly owned by Clear Channel which has a HUGE monopoly on radio. Back in 1995 you couldn’t own more then 40 stations across the nation, now Clear Channel owns 1,200 of them.

This is all happening under our noses and with them controlling all the media outlets most of these deregulation’s don’t get publicized like they should. All the smaller, more truth telling outlets get swallowed up by the major presence all these companies have. Its coming to the point were i would rather trust a independent blogger that has done their research more then something coming off of CBS Nightly News.

So switching channels is not going to get you the news you need to hear, maybe a variation but not the whole story. Until they start regulating these monopolies like they did back in the 80′s its time to find news source like allternet or something similar for non monopoly news.
