Nobody cares! That’s right I said it, nobody cares! When is the last time you actually cared about what was going on in the world? I watch people everyday so self consumed with their lives, they have no clue what’s going on around them. Society has become so ignorant its disgusting. More people are concerned with Kim Kardashian, Jersey Shore, and various other reality television garbage then what is actually going on around them. IGNORANCE IS BLISS! We are happy in all our ignorance because as soon as something happens we can say we did not know.
A hundred years ago people cared. They read the newspaper and they listened to the radio. They had an active understanding of the world around them. They paid attention to what bills were being passed through congress because they understood that this was there country and it matter. How many people today can even name the Senators and Representatives of there states? Not many! People don’t care, and the politicians who sit up on capital hill they know this and they count on it. They don’t what you to be aware of what’s going on. Because an educated and aware society is a dangerous society and bad for business.
I like to think of America as the modern day Rome. The Roman government had the Colosseum and it’s gladiatorial games. I remember watching the movie Gladiator and there was a scene in the movie where a Senator was talking to the Emperor. He said something like this “the people don’t care about politics they want games! Show them death and glory and we can do what ever we want and they will love you for it. Rome is the mob and by controlling the mob we control Rome.” This theory applies today. America has all sorts of entertainment. Professional sports and athletes are our modern day gladiators and our stadiums are our Colosseum. Give us our games and our fun and we will love you for it. I know people that will literally kill someone if they say something bad about their sports team. In no way am I implying that professional sports are bad, but they do hold too much weight in our society. We care too much about the wrong things, and your government is counting on it.
We are connected now, more than ever before in the history of mankind. Information is widely available and easily accessible. But we care too much about the wrong information instead of the correct information. There are too many problems and various issues in the world for me to just pick one, but you should. We should care about something! I had a professor once tell me, we are the generation without a cause. We don’t care about anything. As long as you can come home and watch your football game or play your Xbox 360 your life is fine. When are we going to wake up? I hope we do soon! Because right now we are just the mob, easily controlled and confused.
